Moms Reveal Their Baby Registry Must Haves

When it comes time to put together that all-important wish list for your upcoming baby shower, it can actually prove quite daunting, considering most women doing this have never actually had a baby before. Who knows what you’ll really need when baby arrives?

That’s why we asked moms for their absolute must-haves from their own baby registry – products that they couldn’t do without.

According to Melanie, a mom of 2 from New York, “If I had to choose just one product that I couldn’t have done without, it would definitely be the cotton muslin security blanket by Little Unicorn. We call it ‘lovey’ in our house, but it is so much more.” Melanie says that the muslin security blanket helped with introducing sleep cues and adjusting to sleep transitions, but was also taken on first hikes, first holidays, long car rides, and is still a favorite bedtime companion to her now 5-year-old daughter.

“In a time when we can all appreciate feeling more ‘secure’ it delights me that this will always be a cherished item, far beyond the tattered threads I’m sure it will be someday become,” she says.

A tip? Get two! “Get a matching one and rotate it in and wash it alongside the original. That way, Heaven forbid something ever happens to it, you know you have a backup that looks and feels exactly like the original one.”

Amanda, mom to a now 9-month old, admits, “One thing I couldn’t have done without was a bottle sterilizer!”

Francesca, a California-based mom to a 1-year old, admits she couldn’t have done without her white noise machine. “I was hesitant about adding one to our registry only because I figured my baby wouldn’t need it. I’m so happy I added it, after all. My daughter is so easily soothed by the sounds of the ocean, that I found myself having to do very little work to calm her down before bed. She’s now 17 months old, and her sound machine is still going strong as we use turn it on for every nap, and overnight, as she rests. It helps drown out the noise from outside of her room, which has been so helpful to avoid needing to tiptoe around the house as she sleeps.”

According to Pittsburgh-area mom of two, Kristy, “My must-have baby item was actually a Velcro-close swaddle! My babies always wiggled out of a swaddle so fast. But a Velcro swaddle kept them nice and snug and definitely helped them to sleep longer! Which is always appreciated!”

Deanna, who lives in Utah with her new baby, lists some of her top registry must-haves as Mylicon Gas Drops and Fridababy NoseFrida, “to get the snot out when your whole family keeps passing a cold around to each other;” muslin swaddling blankets, burp cloths, sleeping gowns, an infant lounger, and Dr. Brown’s anti-colic bottles, “hands-down my favorite.”

According to Lily, who lives in Pennsylvania with her kiddos, “I could've done without the Boppy for nursing and looooved my Beaba Babycook food maker! Game changer! For newborns, I would say my portable white noise machine was a favorite.”

And Boston-area mom, Aubrey, said she could not have gone without the drying rack for bottles. “I found it really convenient to have a drying rack solely dedicated to my son's bottles and my pumping parts. Now that he is a toddler, we still use the rack for his cups, plates and utensils. We haven't gone a single day of his life without grabbing something from his drying rack.”
